Costume Rental 101

Costume rental can mean different things to different people. For example somebody going to a high school costume party is not going to get the same type of costume that a man or woman trying out for a big role in a play would rent. I wrote this article to give you all the tips you need to have a successful rental.

Firstly you will need to determine where you will be wearing your outfit. As we said earlier a rental costume used for a Halloween party at the bar will be different than a rental costume geared towards a play on Broadway or even an Indie Film.

Once you’ve decided on the venue, you can decide on the quality of the costume. You’ll need to note that the more “life like” a costume is, the more money it will be to rent. You won’t find a costume made of gold at your local mall.

A prospective costume renter should consider what the cost would be to purchase a costume before they decide on a final rental. You may find that renting a costume to film in your movie may not be worth it. The person renting a costume for months at a time is usually better off purchasing.

A good way to decide on buying versus renting is to decide how long you will need to wear the costume. Then determine the price you will pay in rental fees. Following this one should browse through some ecommerce stores to see what purchase prices are available. For example some roman armor may cost you fifty dollars each day in rental fees and over 1,500 in fees over a month long period. However, purchasing such an item may only cost you five hundred dollars. You can even sell the costume when your done with it.

Lastly, when making a rental, be sure you have a full understanding of what the return policies are. Getting your costume cleaned, as per a company’s guidelines, may cost you more than you imagined. Other companies may do the cleaning for you free of charge or at a discount rate. Keep in mind that when you rent a superior costume like roman soldier armor, you will have a hard time cleaning it afterwards.
