Perhaps turn the old pendant into something cool by polishing it and adding a small glitter or something jazzy.
If beads are broken, change them and add a lot more to make it stronger and if the strings are broken, alter them. Perhaps everything appears to become falling apart and you might need to start all more than but you can maintain its vintage feel by utilizing same strings and pendant for example in heart necklaces. If you would like, you can alter the clasp too if it is broken or ancient.
